Armed robbers seize AK47 from ‘galamsey policeman’, snatch gold and more

Suspected armed robbers numbering four on Tuesday evening attacked and seized an AK47 assault rifle with 15 rounds of ammunition from one Lance Corporal Evans Tutudor at Ampunyase, a village under Obuasi District in the Ashanti Region.

The miscreants also made away with a pick-up vehicle belonging to some illegal miners and a quantity of gold that was being transported, police confirmed to MyNews.

Though no injury was recorded, police investigators reveal that the policeman in question with service number No.46383 faces additional sanctions for engaging what the service described as unlawful escorting of illegal mining from their mining site to Amponyase.

According to checks by this portal, the duty was not sanctioned by superiors which led to the seizure of the service rifle with number 6792 with 15 rounds of ammunition from him

No.46383 G/L/Cpl Evans Tutordor of Amponyase police station who was unlawfully escorting some illegal miners from their mining site to Ampunyase. That the alleged armed men attacked him together with the miners and took his AK 47 service riffle No.6792 with 15 rounds of ammunition from him.  The robbers also allegedly snatched the pickup the illegal miners were using together with an unspecified carat of gold. There was no injury and no arrest made. Investigations commences to arrest the suspects for questioning and also take action against the L/Cpl. Further developments will be communicated, please” a superior explained to this portal.
