Bibiani Gold Stars needed a penalty to be awarded at Dun’s Park in game 13 of the betPawa Premier League for them to extend their unbeaten streak to nine games.

Referee Franklin Akumatey gave the home team, Bibiani Gold Stars, a penalty in the 50th minute for Adraman Yahaya to give coach Michael Osei’s team hope after Steve Mukwala had scored his first away goal of the 2022-2023 league season at 45 minutes plus 8 seconds.

Images and videos that have been shared on various social media platforms show that Kumasi Asante Kotoko should have received a foul in their penalty box if an infraction had been whistled, but Franklin Akumatey instead whistled for a penalty against Asante Kotoko.

Asante Kotoko’s administrative manager, Emmanuel Dasoberi, was forced to praise referee Franklin Akumatey sarcastically after he decided to award Bibiani Gold Stars a penalty to prevent them from winning at Dun’s Park for the second time in a row.

Emmanuel Dasoberi explained on Oyerepa FM on Tuesday morning, “The team did well, and the referee also did very well. He has done so well, and he officiated the game fairly. We will not file any official complaints against him; he did so well.”

The Match Review Panel will examine the betPawa Premier League Matchday 13 match between Bibiani Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko at their upcoming meeting, according to the enchanting team of editors at www.atspo.com.

The ever-loving fans of Kumasi Asante Kotoko can’t wait for the next sitting of the Match Review Panel of the betPawa Premier League, so they have started an investigation into referee Franklin Akumatey’s life and pulled out information that will be relevant to Ghana football.

After thoroughly investigating the referee before officially joining the Association Football Referees of Ghana, it was discovered that he was a staunch supporter of Asante Kotoko’s rival, Accra Hearts of Oak, as revealed by a post on his timeline on his Facebook accounts.

Referee Akumatey updated his official Facebook account on Sunday, November 20, 2011, with the caption, “Off to the Accra Sports Stadium to watch the Super Cracker match. Phoooooobia, I’m in Hearts colours now from head to toe. This is the last time I can support Accra Hearts of Oak openly, so I’m doing it well.”
